Meet the Team

There are four key disciplines within the laboratory; prenatal, postnatal (including microarrays), oncology and molecular. genetics. Each laboratory section is staffed with registered medical laboratory scientists and technicians and led by a section head.

A consultant clinical geneticist is responsible for the provision of clinical oversight for the laboratory and the service leader is responsible for the technical / scientific operations and financial and personnel management of the laboratory. 

The laboratory currently employs 18 medical laboratory scientists, 6 medical laboratory technicians and 2 data administrators.

Clive Felix

Service Leader

Clive is the head of the laboratory. He has over 25 years diagnostic cytogenetic experience, having initially trained in the UK and gaining a postgraduate qualification in clinical cytogenetics in 1997. He relocated to New Zealand in 2002.

Section Head Prenatal

Andy heads the prenatal section of the laboratory. He has over 25 years experience in two diagnostic cytogenetic laboratories and a special interest in prenatal cytogenetics.

Angela

Angela Brown
BSc(Hons), FHGSA, FFSc (RCPA)
Section Head Oncology

Angela leads our experienced oncology team gaining extensive experience at the Oncology Laboratory, Children’s Hospital, Zurich (2005-2008). She completed her fellowship examinations in 2012 and is the current chair of the ASDG QAP for Cytogenetics.

Rachel Beddow

Rachel Beddow
BSc(Hons), PGCCC(UK)
Section Head Postnatal

Rachel leads the postnatal section of the laboratory. UK trained with more than 25 years experience, Rachel relocated to New Zealand in 2002. She introduced microarray technology in 2008 and is currently overseeing its implementation across other areas of the laboratory.

Jo Martindale

Section Head Molecular

 

Jo leads the molecular team, having over 25 years’ experience gained at three UK genetics laboratories. She has a special interest in neurogenetic disorders and is an EQA assessor for the European Molecular Genetics Quality Network (EMQN).
